Electrical Engineer Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer will oversee the completion of electrical maintenance tasks, prioritizing quality, safety, and efficiency to ensure maximum equipment uptime at minimal cost. They will also lead the design and development of new electrical systems and modifications to existing equipment, in line with plant standards. Additionally, the role involves enhancing preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide electricians and maintenance staff in maintenance and installation of electrical and control systems
- Responsible for plant maintaining the proper functioning of all electrical and control systems
- Design and coordinate corrective maintenance projects
- Coordinate and implement electrical engineering projects
- Supervise contractors for electrical projects
- Ensure electrical maintenance on plant equipment is executed effectively, within budget, and on time.
- Develop and implement work methods and procedures within the electrical domain.
- Optimize electrical maintenance processes to maximize equipment availability.
- Oversee major operations, ensuring timely completion, such as the annual overhaul.
- Supervise and mentor a team of electricians
- Assist in creating preventative maintenance routines (PMRs) and bills of materials (BOMs) for electrical equipment.
- Prepare engineering scopes for plant electrical projects.
- Interface with contractors, including obtaining quotes, selecting vendors, and providing field direction.
- Develop cost estimates and justifications for capital projects.
- Conduct feasibility studies for proposed electrical modifications and additions.
- Maintain consistent specifications for modifications and additions.
- Research and recommend new preventative maintenance procedures based on emerging technologies.
- Utilize SAP for purchasing, reviewing work orders, analyzing reports, and managing electrical projects and maintenance programs.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Preferably 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Ideally, 2+ years of experience in heavy manufacturing.
- Strong skills in project management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Expertise in NEC, NFPA, and ISA standards.
- Experience with CAD software.
- Knowledge of PLC/DCS and HMI architecture.
- Solid understanding of the operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, including power distribution systems, circuit breakers, high-voltage systems, HVAC and pressurization systems, variable speed medium voltage drives/motors, transformers, switchgear, MCC equipment, and power monitoring and communication systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of system analysis, including short circuit, coordination, load flow, motor starting, and arc flash studies.
