As the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager for a food manufacturing facility, you will oversee, implement, and continuously improve the company's EHS programs. Your leadership will ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, safeguard the health and safety of employees, and protect the environment. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide training, and foster a culture of safety and sustainability across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance
- You ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other applicable regulations specific to the food manufacturing industry.
- You maintain and update required permits, records, and documentation for regulatory agencies.
- You conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance and address any deficiencies.
2. Health and Safety Program Management
- You design and implement workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- You conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and incident investigations.
- You lead initiatives to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and accidents.
3. Environmental Program Oversight
- You monitor and manage waste disposal, energy usage, and water conservation efforts.
- You ensure compliance with air emissions, stormwater, and other environmental permits.
- You lead sustainability efforts to reduce the facility's environmental footprint.
4. Training and Development
- You develop and deliver training programs on safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and environmental responsibilities.
- You keep employees informed of EHS policies and their roles in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
5. Emergency Response Management
- You create and manage emergency response plans, ensuring readiness for situations like chemical spills, fires, or natural disasters.
- You conduct drills and coordinate with local emergency services when necessary.
6. Continuous Improvement
- You identify trends from incident reports and inspection findings to implement corrective actions.
- You leverage industry best practices and new technologies to enhance EHS performance.
7. Leadership and Collaboration
- You provide guidance and support to management and employees on EHS-related matters.
- You work closely with production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to integrate EHS priorities into daily operations.
- You lead or participate in cross-functional committees and teams focused on EHS initiatives.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- You have a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- You bring 5+ years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in food manufacturing or a related industry.
Knowledge and Skills
- You are knowledgeable about EHS regulations and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and food safety requirements.
- You have experience conducting risk assessments, developing EHS programs, and managing compliance audits.
- You are proficient in data analysis and reporting tools used for tracking EHS performance metrics.
- You have strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- HAZWOPER, CPR/First Aid certifications
